THE PINKAS

The Pinkas is an account of the founding of the Red Shul, anecdotes, stories, and humor. It was written by Yechiel Herman, likely between 1906 and 1952. It is a large and beautiful book, viewable at Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem on Baily Road in Cote St Luc (Montreal, Quebec). The English translation by David Rome is presented here. Janice Rosen, Archives Director, Canadian Jewish Congress Charities Committee National Archives has done additional technical editing and kindly provided for its appearance here. Our thanks to Rabbi Chaim Steinmetz and the Executive Committee of Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem for permission to include the Pinkas on this website. It is possible that some segments of the Yiddish text are still untranslated. If the Pinkas does not appear on your screen, you will need to download Adobe Reader.
